Real-Time Supervision Is Coming. Who Owns the Data?
Kenya's financial sector is entering a period of more demanding data expectations. The Central Bank of Kenya is moving towards near-real-time supervision through its Granular Data Integration project. Alongside this, the National Treasury and CBK have put a draft National Payment System Bill and Policy out for public consultation.
At the same time, AI is moving up every institution's agenda. But the hardest data problems are rarely technical. They are unresolved decisions about who owns the customer, which system is right and whose definition wins. AI does not settle those arguments. It operationalises them.
Granular supervision raises the bar, and it also creates an opportunity. Investment in data quality, governance and integration that was once hard to justify now has a clear regulatory driver behind it. The same foundation that serves the supervisor also serves risk models, financial-crime controls and AI.
For institutions already running AI pilots and those still building the case, the question is the same: how do you settle what your data means before the regulator and your AI rely on it?
This private roundtable brings together senior leaders from Kenya's banks, payment institutions and regulated fintechs to examine how to get the foundation right first. The aim is trusted, well-governed data for AI, automation and the next phase of digital transformation.
Settle the arguments first
Who owns the customer, which system is the source of truth, and whose definition wins? What does it take to resolve these before AI and the regulator rely on the data?
Meet granular supervision without manual effort
How should data ownership, quality and lineage be organised so regulatory reporting no longer depends on manual reconciliation?
Fix before you automate
Which processes should be fixed before they are automated, and how do trusted data and strong governance get AI safely into production?
